Good Energy has been ranked the UK’s leading domestic supplier of hourly-matched renewable electricity for the second year running in the latest Matched Clean Power Index. The independent ranking uses public market data to show how much renewable power each supplier actually delivers in the same hours customers use it. Good Energy scored 87%, nearly 20 points ahead of the next domestic supplier. Scores across the market ranged from 87% down to just 2%.
The problem with REGOs
Many suppliers still market tariffs as “100% renewable” by buying annual Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates. These can be purchased separately from the actual electricity, so a supplier can source power from fossil fuels and still claim green credentials. The index highlights how this annual approach hides big differences in real-time renewable supply.
Hourly matching explained
Hourly matching checks whether renewable generation happens at the same time as customer demand. Good Energy buys power directly from 3,300 independent UK renewable generators and actively matches supply to demand throughout the year. This gives customers a clearer picture of the environmental impact and supports a more flexible renewables-led grid.

In fact, our score was almost 20 percentage points higher than the next-best domestic supplier, highlighting just how big the gap can be between renewable claims and real-world performance.
