What’s new on EE’s network
EE has just switched on Fast Lane, the UK’s first commercial 5G+ network slice. It automatically shifts customers into a dedicated lane when the network gets busy, so streaming, video calls and payments keep working even at gigs, festivals or rush hour.
The feature builds on EE’s 5G+ coverage, now reaching around 54 million people. It’s aimed at both consumers and small businesses who want priority when thousands of others are trying to connect at once.
The quote from EE
Claire Gillies, CEO of BT’s Consumer Division, said: “Powered by our advanced 5G+ network, Fast Lane gives our customers access to a dedicated 5G+ lane at the busiest times. Whether they’re live streaming a special moment from a sell-out gig or processing mobile payments and ticketing at a festival, Fast Lane helps keep customers connected even when thousands of people around them are trying to connect at the same time. This innovation builds on years of investment in EE’s 5G+ network and real-world network slicing trials, marking another milestone for the UK’s best network.”
How to get it
- Consumers need the new Full Works Plus plan (an extra £5 a month on top of the current Full Works tariff) plus a compatible 5G+ handset.
- Small-business customers can add it to a Full Works business plan.
- A 5G+ icon will start appearing on eligible phones later this year so you know when you’re in the fast lane.
