How to get a Smarty PAC code
If you want to leave Smarty and keep your mobile number, you need a Smarty PAC code (Porting Authorisation Code). This is the standard way to move your number to another UK network.
From your Smarty phone, text PAC to 65075. Smarty should reply by text with your PAC code. Give that code to your new provider when you order a SIM or start a switch — they use it to bring your number across.
The PAC is issued by Smarty, not by your new network. It is usually valid for 30 days. If it expires before you finish switching, text PAC to 65075 again to request a new one.
You can use our PAC & STAC code generator if you want the exact text message and short code ready to copy.
How to cancel Smarty
To cancel Smarty, you do not usually need a separate cancellation call. Leaving is done by porting your number out or ending the line.
To keep your number: text PAC to 65075, then give the code to your new provider.
If you do not need your number: text STAC to 75075. Smarty will end the service and your number will be released.
Before you leave, sign in to your Smarty account and check for any outstanding balance or failed payments. Smarty plans are rolling monthly, so there is typically no long fixed contract to buy out — but you should still settle anything owed on the account.
If you prefer written notice, you can use our cancellation letter generator to draft a letter or email.
What is a PAC code and how does porting work?
A PAC code lets you move your existing mobile number from Smarty to another UK network. Your new provider submits the PAC to start the switch. Porting usually takes one working day once the request is in, though it can take a little longer at busy times.
A STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) does the opposite: it cancels the line and gives up the number. Use STAC only if you are happy to take a new number with your next provider.
These short codes — 65075 for PAC and 75075 for STAC — work across UK mobile networks under Ofcom rules.
Smarty notice period and cancellation fees
Smarty sells rolling monthly SIM only plans, not traditional 12- or 24-month phone contracts. That means you are not normally tied into a minimum term in the way you would be on a handset deal.
Smarty’s standard notice period is 30 days. In practice, once you port out with a PAC or cancel with a STAC, your service ends as part of that process. You are unlikely to face an early termination fee on a standard Smarty SIM plan, but you will remain liable for any usage or plan charges up to the point the line closes.
If you have added extras or have an unusual account setup, check your Smarty account or contact Smarty through smarty.co.uk/contact before you switch.
Keeping your number when you leave Smarty
To keep your number, request your Smarty PAC code before you cancel the SIM. Order or activate your new plan first, then give the new provider your PAC when asked.
A typical switch looks like this:
- Choose a new SIM only deal from another provider.
- Text PAC to 65075 from your Smarty phone.
- Give the PAC to your new network when you sign up or activate your new SIM.
- Wait for the port to complete — your Smarty SIM will stop working once the switch is done.
- Put the new SIM in your phone and check calls, texts and data.
Do not destroy your Smarty SIM until the port has finished and your number works on the new network.
Alternatives to Smarty
Smarty runs on the Three network as a low-cost MVNO. If you are leaving because of price, coverage or customer service, you have plenty of other SIM only options.
Similar low-cost MVNOs worth comparing include giffgaff SIM only deals, Lebara SIM only deals and iD Mobile SIM only deals. For rolling plans with no long tie-in, see 30-day SIM only deals.
Main UK networks offer their own SIM only plans if you want a direct relationship with the provider. Compare O2 SIM only deals, Vodafone SIM only deals and Three SIM only deals. For the widest view, browse cheapest SIM only deals or our full SIM only comparison.

Tips before you switch from Smarty
- Back up your contacts if they are stored on the SIM or in Smarty’s systems rather than your phone or cloud account.
- Update two-factor authentication apps and bank accounts if they use your mobile number for verification.
- Download bills or usage records from your Smarty account if you need them for your records.
- Time the switch so you are not mid-billing cycle with a large data pack you will lose when the line closes.
