How to cancel Vodafone broadband
If you want to cancel Vodafone broadband, the process depends on whether you are switching to another provider or ending the service altogether. In most cases you need to give 30 days’ notice. If you are still inside your minimum contract term, Vodafone may also charge an early termination fee on your final bill.
Vodafone home broadband runs over the Openreach network in most areas, with CityFibre full fibre available in some postcodes. That matters because if you are moving to another Openreach-based provider, One Touch Switch can often handle the admin for you. If you are leaving broadband entirely, you will need to contact Vodafone directly and put your cancellation in writing.
Step-by-step: how to cancel Vodafone broadband
- Check your contract status. Look at your welcome email, contract summary or Vodafone account to see when your minimum term ends and what notice applies.
- Decide whether you are switching or leaving. If you are joining another broadband provider, order the new service first and tell them you are switching from Vodafone. If you no longer need home broadband, contact Vodafone to cancel.
- Give 30 days’ notice. Vodafone requires 30 days’ notice for broadband cancellation once you are outside the cooling-off period.
- Put it in writing. A formal cancellation letter or email gives you a clear record of the date you served notice and the leave date you were given. You can use our cancellation letter generator to draft one.
- Confirm your end date and any charges. Ask Vodafone to confirm your final service date, any early exit costs if you are still in contract, and what happens to your direct debit.
- Return your router. Send back any Vodafone equipment within the timeframe you are given to avoid non-return charges.
Vodafone broadband notice period
The standard Vodafone broadband notice period is 30 days. If your minimum contract term has already ended, you can cancel at any time by serving that notice.
During the first 14 days after your service goes live, you have a cooling-off period. If you cancel within that window, Vodafone should refund payments already taken (subject to any usage or installation costs set out in your terms), and you must return any equipment supplied.
If you cancel after the cooling-off period but before your minimum term ends, the 30-day notice still applies and an early termination fee is likely to be added to your final bill.
Cancelling by phone, online chat or in writing
To cancel Vodafone broadband directly, you can:
- Call 191 from a Vodafone mobile
- Call 0333 304 0191 from any other phone or landline
- Use Vodafone live chat through your online account
Phone and chat are useful for starting the process, but it is worth following up in writing so you have proof of when notice was given. Keep a copy of any letter, email or chat transcript until you receive written confirmation of your cancellation date.
If you are unsure what to include, our cancellation letter generator can produce a ready-to-send letter or email body with your account details, notice period and reason for leaving.
Switching to another provider with One Touch Switch
If you are switching from Vodafone broadband to another provider on the Openreach network, One Touch Switch means your new supplier can often manage the changeover. You still order broadband with the new provider and tell them you are switching away from Vodafone — they should liaise on the transfer date.
One Touch Switch does not remove the need to check your Vodafone contract. Confirm with Vodafone whether any early exit charges apply before your switch completes, especially if you are still inside your minimum term.
Popular Openreach-based alternatives include BT broadband deals, Sky broadband deals, EE broadband deals, TalkTalk broadband deals and Plusnet broadband deals. Use our broadband postcode checker to see which providers and speeds are available at your address before you commit.
If you are switching to a network that is not on Openreach — such as Virgin Media broadband, which uses its own cable network — you will need to cancel Vodafone separately and coordinate your go-live dates yourself.
Early termination fees and your final bill
If you cancel Vodafone broadband before your minimum contract ends, Vodafone can charge an early termination fee. The amount depends on how much of your contract is left and your monthly package price. Vodafone calculates this from your remaining months and may apply adjustments set out in your terms — the exact figure should be confirmed by Vodafone, not estimated from generic calculators alone.
Your final bill usually arrives within a few weeks of leaving and may include:
- Any early termination fee if you left during your minimum term
- Line rental or package charges up to your confirmed end date
- Equipment non-return fees if a router or other kit is not sent back in time
If your minimum term has ended and you leave on proper notice, you should not face an early exit charge — though you will still pay for service up to your final day.
For a rough idea of what leaving mid-contract might cost across providers, you can use our standalone early termination fee calculator, then ask Vodafone for the binding figure before you switch.
Returning your Vodafone router and equipment
When you cancel Vodafone broadband, you must return the router and any other supplied equipment, such as cables or adapters. Vodafone typically provides a pre-paid returns label or envelope to make this straightforward.
Equipment usually needs to be returned within 30 days of cancellation. If kit is missing or damaged, Vodafone may charge a non-return fee on your final bill. Pack everything securely, keep proof of postage, and note the tracking reference if one is provided.
Moving home, going abroad or stopping broadband entirely
Moving within the UK: Vodafone may be able to transfer your service to a new address if it can supply broadband there. If the new property is not serviceable, or you no longer want Vodafone, you will need to cancel with 30 days’ notice. Early termination fees apply if you are still in your minimum period.
Moving abroad: Vodafone cannot continue home broadband at an overseas address. You must cancel with 30 days’ notice; early exit charges may apply if you are still in contract.
No longer needing broadband: Contact Vodafone to cancel rather than simply stopping payment. You remain liable for the notice period and any contract charges until Vodafone confirms your service has ended.
Vodafone broadband is not the same as Vodafone mobile
Cancelling Vodafone broadband is a separate process from cancelling a Vodafone mobile contract. Mobile customers use PAC or STAC codes to port a number; home broadband is cancelled by notice, switching or written request.
If you also have a Vodafone phone contract, see our guide on how to cancel Vodafone mobile for PAC codes and SIM-only switching. Your broadband and mobile accounts may appear under one Vodafone login, but the cancellation routes are different.
Compare broadband deals before you leave
Once you know your earliest leave date and any exit costs, compare what else is available at your postcode. That helps you avoid overlap between providers or a gap without internet.
Useful starting points on WeHelpCompare:
- Compare broadband deals — all providers and packages at your address
- Cheapest broadband deals — if price is your main reason for leaving
- No contract broadband deals — if you want more flexibility next time
- 12 month broadband deals — shorter commitments than a typical 24-month contract
