How to cancel a Vodafone contract
If you want to leave Vodafone mobile, the process depends on whether you need to keep your phone number. For most people switching to another network, that means getting a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) and giving it to your new provider. Vodafone sends the code to you by text — not through a comparison site or third-party tool.
If you are on a pay-monthly contract, a SIM-only plan, or a plan that includes a handset, the PAC route is usually the simplest way to cancel. Your Vodafone service ends automatically when your number ports to the new network on the agreed switch date.
If you do not need your number, you can request a STAC (Service Termination Authorisation Code) instead by texting STAC to 75075.
Before you start, check your contract end date and any early termination charges in the My Vodafone app or on your latest bill. Leaving mid-contract can mean paying the remaining months on your minimum term, or a fee calculated by Vodafone.
How to get your Vodafone PAC code
To request a PAC from Vodafone, text PAC to 65075 from the Vodafone number you want to move. This is the standard Ofcom short code used by all UK mobile networks.
Vodafone should reply by text with your PAC and an expiry date. The code is typically valid for 30 days. Give the PAC to your new provider when you sign up or during the checkout process — they handle the switch and tell you when the port will complete.
You can use our PAC & STAC code generator to see the exact text message and number to use. The generator shows what to send; Vodafone still issues the code itself.
What if you have more than one Vodafone number?
Request a separate PAC for each mobile number you want to port. Text PAC to 65075 from each line individually.
Can you get a PAC online?
You can manage your account through the Vodafone app or Vodafone support pages, but the PAC itself is issued by SMS. Texting PAC to 65075 is the standard way to request it and works whether you are on a phone contract, a SIM-only plan, or a rolling 30-day agreement.
How to cancel a Vodafone plan without keeping your number
If you do not need to keep your number — for example, you are leaving the UK or switching to a new number — text STAC to 75075 from your Vodafone phone.
Vodafone will reply with a STAC and a date when your service will end. Once that date passes, your Vodafone line is disconnected and the number is returned to the network.
How to cancel a Vodafone contract online
Vodafone does not offer a single “cancel my contract” button that covers every situation. What you can do online depends on your plan type:
- Switching to another network and keeping your number: request a PAC by texting PAC to 65075, then give the code to your new provider. You do not usually need to cancel separately — the port triggers the leave date.
- Leaving without porting your number: text STAC to 75075, or contact Vodafone to confirm your final bill date.
- Account queries, bills, and contract details: use the My Vodafone app or sign in at vodafone.co.uk.
If you want a written record of your cancellation — useful for disputes or if you are not switching immediately — use our cancellation letter generator to draft a formal notice with your account details and preferred leave date.
For general help, call 191 from your Vodafone mobile. From another phone, check the contact number on your bill or in the My Vodafone app.
Vodafone cancellation charges and early termination fees
Whether you pay to leave early depends on your contract status:
| Situation | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| Minimum term finished | You can leave on 30 days’ notice, or immediately if you port out with a PAC |
| Still in minimum term | Vodafone may charge an early termination fee based on the months left on your contract |
| Handset on contract | Any remaining device payments may be added to your final bill |
| Rolling 30-day plan | Typically one month’s notice; check your plan terms |
Vodafone calculates early exit charges according to your specific contract. The figure on your bill or in the app is the one to trust — do not rely on rough estimates from online calculators unless they match what Vodafone has quoted you.
Pay any final bill after your service ends, including usage charges up to the port or disconnection date. If you ported out with a PAC, Vodafone may send a closing bill after the switch completes.
Switching from Vodafone to another network
Once you have your PAC, choose a new provider and hand over the code during sign-up. Your new network arranges the switch date — often within one working day once the PAC is accepted, though you can usually pick a later date if you prefer.
While you wait, keep your Vodafone SIM in your phone and do not cancel the PAC request. The old service stays active until the port completes.
When you are ready to compare alternatives, browse SIM only deals from other networks. If you want flexibility without a long tie-in, 30-day SIM only deals are a common choice for people leaving a contract.
Other networks with their own cancellation guides on this site include O2, EE, and Three.
Switching from Vodafone to VOXI
VOXI is owned by Vodafone but runs as a separate brand with its own plans. Moving from a standard Vodafone contract to VOXI still counts as switching provider — you need a PAC from Vodafone even though both sit on the Vodafone network.
The steps are the same:
- Text PAC to 65075 from your Vodafone number.
- Sign up to VOXI and provide the PAC during checkout.
- Wait for the port date; your Vodafone contract ends when the number moves.
Check whether any early termination fees apply on your existing Vodafone contract before you commit. A VOXI plan may be cheaper, but leaving mid-contract on Vodafone can still trigger a charge.
Leaving Talkmobile or Asda Mobile
If your service is through an MVNO on the Vodafone network rather than Vodafone directly, the PAC process is the same — text PAC to 65075 from the number you want to move. See our guides for Talkmobile and Asda Mobile if those apply to you.
Cancelling Vodafone broadband
This page covers Vodafone mobile. Home broadband is a separate product with a different cancellation process — usually notice and, if you move to another Openreach-based provider, potentially One Touch Switch rather than a PAC code.
If you want to cancel Vodafone home broadband, read our dedicated guide on how to cancel Vodafone broadband. Once you know your leave date, you can compare broadband deals from other providers.
Mobile and broadband can be cancelled independently. Leaving Vodafone mobile does not automatically cancel Vodafone broadband, and vice versa.
Step-by-step checklist: leaving Vodafone mobile
- Check your contract — note your end date and any early termination fee in the My Vodafone app.
- Choose your new provider — compare SIM only deals and pick a plan before requesting your PAC.
- Request your PAC — text PAC to 65075 from your Vodafone number.
- Give the PAC to your new network — do this within the code’s validity window (usually 30 days).
- Confirm the switch date — your new provider will tell you when the port completes.
- Pay your final Vodafone bill — including any early exit charge and usage up to the leave date.
- Swap to your new SIM — on the switch date, insert the new SIM and follow any activation steps.

Compare deals before you switch
People cancel Vodafone for many reasons: the monthly price has risen, they no longer need a handset contract, coverage suits another network better, or a rolling SIM-only plan offers better value.
Before you request your PAC, compare what is available elsewhere. Our SIM only deals page shows plans from multiple networks so you can see monthly costs, data allowances, and contract lengths side by side. Shorter contracts and 30-day plans can work well if you are unsure how long you will stay with a new provider.
If you are also reviewing home internet, broadband deals are listed separately — useful if you are moving both mobile and broadband at the same time.
Once you have chosen a new plan, request your PAC, hand it to your new provider, and let the port handle the cancellation for you.
