Fast sell-out
Octopus Energy has restocked its plug-in solar kits twice in under a month after the first 500 units sold in a fortnight. The supplier says 89% of buyers chose the double-panel version. The kits became legal at the end of August and need no electrician.
Savings and setup
A two-panel system can cut bills by up to £150 a year on Octopus’s Outgoing export tariff when surplus power goes back to the grid. Renters and flat owners can install the panels themselves and take them when they move. Bundles start at £450 for one panel or £650 for two, including mounting.
Price cap context
The news arrives as Ofgem raised the energy price cap by 4% from 1 October to 31 December 2026. We covered the cap rise and calls for extra support. Earlier this summer we looked at how plug-in solar rules opened up.
Next steps
Octopus plans to add its own Nook Cube battery in Q1 2027. Check stock and details on the supplier site if you want to order before the next batch goes.
