Labour's 2030 Clean Power Goal
Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh told the Labour Party Conference that "a mark of her success or failure would be whether she could get bills down and said she would do so". She also criticised Reform UK and the Tories, claiming they "would eventually ‘bow’ because they were on the ‘wrong side of history’". The 28 September 2026 speech outlined plans to double onshore wind, triple solar and quadruple offshore wind by 2030, aiming for a zero-carbon electricity system five years earlier than previous targets.
Great British Energy and Warm Homes Plan
A new publicly owned company, Great British Energy, will co-invest in green hydrogen, tidal and floating offshore wind. The Warm Homes Plan adds £6.6 billion over the next parliament to upgrade five million homes with insulation, solar panels, batteries and low-carbon heating. Delivery will be devolved to mayors and councils.
What This Means for Household Bills
The strategy rests on cheaper home-grown renewables replacing volatile fossil fuels and on efficiency upgrades that cut consumption. Labour estimates owner-occupiers could save hundreds of pounds a year once solar and batteries are installed.
