That £879 figure is £80 more than the Pixel 10's £799 launch price, and prices rose by a similar step right across the range. Google has effectively swapped a bigger base storage tier for a higher entry price. If you were only ever going to use 128GB, that's a worse deal than last year; if you take a lot of video, it isn't.

Tensor G6: better, but still not a gaming chip
The Tensor G6 moves to a 3nm process and a seven-core layout — one 4.1GHz Arm C1-Ultra core, four C1-Pro cores at 3.4GHz and two efficiency cores at 2.65GHz. Google claims 25% faster web browsing and up to 20% better power efficiency than the Tensor G5.
In practice that lands as a solid but unremarkable step. Reviewers found the phone fast and fluid in daily use, and notably better at holding its performance under load than some rivals — Ars Technica measured it losing under 25% of its performance during extended use, which is better thermal behaviour than several high-end Qualcomm chips manage.
Gaming is the weak spot, and it has not been fixed. The G6 reuses the same PowerVR GPU as last year's G5, so graphically demanding titles run at noticeably lower frame rates than on a Snapdragon flagship. Casual and free-to-play games are absolutely fine. If you play Genshin Impact or similar, this is not the phone to buy.
RAM: 12GB across the board
Last year Google pushed its base Pro models up to 16GB of RAM and pointed to on-device AI as the reason. This year it has gone the other way: the Pixel 11 has 12GB, and 16GB is only available on the higher-storage Pro and Pro XL models.
For the standard Pixel 11 this is less of an issue than the headline suggests, because 12GB is what the old Pixel 10 shipped with too, and reviewers reported little practical difference — heavy apps may drop out of memory slightly sooner, but Pixels are good at holding apps open. It is still a step backwards on a phone that costs more than its predecessor.
Cameras
The Pixel 11 keeps a full three-camera setup, which is the main reason it stands out at this price:
- 48MP main camera (new sensor) with Macro Focus, so close-up shots no longer need the ultrawide.
- 13MP ultrawide (new sensor) for landscapes and group shots.
- 10.8MP 5x optical telephoto, carried over from last year. A genuine optical zoom on a sub-£900 phone is unusual — most rivals at this price crop from the main sensor instead.
Google's processing remains the real advantage. Reviewers consistently note that Pixels freeze moving subjects more reliably than more expensive phones from Apple and Samsung, and handle dynamic range better.
New this year on the software side are Camera Looks — colour profiles such as velvet, digi, editorial and minimal that work a bit like film simulations on a Fujifilm camera, and can be tuned with sliders for grain, tint and highlights — and Magic Capture, which records video and lets the AI pick and save the best still moments for you. Magic Capture is clever but inconsistent: it works well with a clear subject in the middle of the frame and misses often enough that you'll still want to press the shutter yourself for anything important.
Video tops out at 4K/60fps. The 8K option and the faster Instant Night Sight are Pro-only.
Battery and charging
The 4,985mAh battery is fractionally smaller than the Pixel 10's, but Google still quotes over 24 hours of mixed use and reviewers didn't find it running flat any sooner. Charging is unchanged at 30W wired (around 55% in half an hour) and 25W magnetic wireless via Qi2.2 and Pixelsnap. The 45W fast-charging upgrade went to the Pro XL only.
What you don't get
Three things are reserved for the Pro models: HiLight, the ring of LEDs around the camera flash that pulses for calls and Gemini activity; Wi-Fi 7 and ultra-wideband; and the higher-resolution LTPO display that can drop to 1Hz. HiLight is no great loss — every review so far has called it half-baked, since it only lights up when the phone is face down and only responds to Gemini and calls from starred contacts.

The honest read: don't upgrade from a Pixel 10. The chip and modem are better, the ultrawide and main sensors are new, and you get double the base storage — but the screen, design, telephoto camera, charging speed and day-to-day experience are essentially the same, and you'd be paying more for the privilege. Ars Technica's verdict on the whole range was blunt: if you have a Pixel 10, Pixel 9 "or even something older, you don't need to run out and buy a Pixel 11".
Coming from a phone that's three or four years old, it's a different story — the camera, screen brightness and update commitment all represent a big jump.

If you mostly shoot in good light and share to social media, the Pixel 11 gets you the great majority of the Pixel camera experience for £200 less — and it has a real optical zoom, which is the upgrade most people notice.
