Coverage Push
EE’s 5G+ network now covers more than 80% of the UK population. Recent additions include Bicester, Chester and Durham in England, Portrush and Strabane in Northern Ireland, Neath and Penarth in Wales, plus Greenock, Alexandria and parts of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park in Scotland. BT Group says the rollout remains on track for 99% population coverage by the end of March 2030.
Rising Use
Customers are shifting more traffic onto 5G+. The technology now carries over 10% of all data on EE’s network, double the share from a year ago. The operator has also rolled out five-carrier aggregation and expanded ARC capacity in busy spots. Fast Lane, the UK’s first commercial network slice, gives consumers and small businesses dedicated capacity at peak times.
Next Steps
BT plans to move AI-RAN from the lab to live EE sites in Birmingham next year, working with NVIDIA and Nokia. If it works, the tech should deliver faster speeds and more consistent connections. The group has also set a new 2.8 Gbps microwave link record to handle rising data volumes, especially in rural areas where fibre is less practical.
Strong Results
Ofcom’s latest Mobile Matters report ranked EE top for overall and consistent performance across the four UK networks. BT Group will have invested more than £40 billion in UK infrastructure between 2020 and 2030. See current mobile options to compare what’s available on EE and rival networks.
