Omanis are once again struggling to open TikTok, with complaints popping up on social media from 13 August. It looks like the platform has been blocked for a second time in around 18 months.
The Omani Telecom Regulatory Authority previously put similar outages down to “technical reasons,” but many locals suspect deliberate interference. The latest disruption follows a court case that saw a woman jailed for content posted on social media.
VPN demand jumps
Our friends at Proton VPN saw sign-ups in the country leap by more than 350 % above normal levels as people looked for a workaround.
If you’re travelling to Oman or live there and want reliable access, a good VPN can help you route around restrictions. We’ve got plenty of options on our VPN comparison page.
Just connect to a server outside the country and you should be back on TikTok in no time.
