Extra off-peak hour on offer
When the clocks go back on Sunday 25 October, E.ON Next customers on the Next Smart Saver tariff will get 22 hours of off-peak or super off-peak electricity instead of the usual 21. The super off-peak window runs from 2am to 5am and the main off-peak periods cover 5am-4pm and 7pm-2am. Peak rates still apply between 4pm and 7pm.
Check timers now or risk missing the cheap slots
Phones and laptops update automatically, but washing machines, dishwashers, water heaters, EV chargers and smart plugs often do not. If timers stay on the old schedule they could start during the expensive peak window or miss the 2am-5am super off-peak rate entirely. E.ON Next is asking customers to confirm their tariff hours, reset any devices that have not adjusted, and shift suitable loads to the daytime or evening off-peak periods where possible.
£3.2 million already saved by shifting use
“Small changes to when you use electricity can make a difference,” said Julian Lennertz, Chief Commercial Officer at E.ON Next. “Our Next Smart Saver customers have collectively saved £3.2 million by moving electricity use away from peak times, and its daytime and evening off-peak periods give households flexibility to make changes that work for them.”
The tariff is available as a 12-month or 24-month fixed deal and requires a working smart meter. Savings vary by household and depend on moving usage out of the 4pm-7pm peak. Compare current energy deals to see whether a time-of-use tariff suits your routine.
