The service goes live
E.ON Next is rolling out Next Optimise, a combined dynamic tariff and automated battery service aimed at homes with solar panels and batteries. The product uses real-time wholesale prices to charge batteries when power is cheap and discharge or export when prices rise. It builds on technology already running in 80,000 Australian homes through E.ON Next’s partnership with Amber Electric.
As we covered when the supplier increased its stake in Amber, the move gives UK households access to the same automated market signals.
What the pilot delivered
Households that used the service for at least three months saved an average of £18 a month compared with similar setups on a standard variable tariff plus the Solar Export Guarantee. Every participant saw some reduction; a few reached close to £100 a month and one home saved £27 in a single week of volatile prices. Modelling suggests typical users could reach nearly £300 a year.
First-year sweetener and small print
E.ON Next is waiving the monthly subscription fee for the first 12 months. After that the charge has not yet been announced. The service requires a compatible battery and solar setup; customers do not need to monitor prices or change routines.
How to sign up
The rollout starts in the coming weeks. Households can register interest on E.ON Next’s site. Interest in solar on the supplier’s website jumped 63 % in early March, showing growing demand for ways to lock in more value from home generation.
