We've just seen E.ON Next drop its overnight EV charging rates to some of the lowest we've spotted this year. The supplier's Next Drive Smart tariff now charges just 6.9p/kWh between 12am and 6am, while the Next Drive Fixed option sits at 8.5p/kWh.
How much could you save?
Compared with the current energy price cap, these rates look seriously competitive. E.ON Next reckons average annual savings of around £462 on the Smart tariff and £423 on the Fixed version.
What Gráinne Regan had to say
Gráinne Regan, Propositions Director at E.ON Next, put it like this: "As more households switch to electric, we want charging at home to be simple, affordable and something drivers don't have to think twice about." She added that "Next Drive Smart makes charging an EV one of the cheapest habits a household can have."
Smart meter needed
You'll need a smart meter to access these rates so the supplier can split your usage between peak and off-peak. If you're shopping around for better energy deals right now, head over to our gas & electricity comparison tool.
Both tariffs also throw in a year's free Zoom EV subscription and a donation to the Woodland Trust for every customer who signs up.
