10,000 units and counting
Octopus Energy has marked the completion of its 10,000th Cosy heat pump at its Portadown factory in Northern Ireland, three years after production began. The units come in 6kW, 9kW and 12kW sizes and are built to run at higher temperatures so most homes keep their existing radiators and pipework. Every model exceeds MCS standards and receives remote software updates.
Real savings on the Cosy tariff
Households using the Cosy Octopus tariff save an average of £230 a year versus a gas boiler. Those who drop gas entirely and avoid the standing charge save nearly £350 while cutting emissions by more than 80%. The smart system shifts heating and hot water into three cheap off-peak windows each day.
Surging interest and high satisfaction
Some 570,000 people contacted Octopus about heat pumps in the past 18 months, roughly a third of the annual boiler-replacement market. In a survey of 1,820 customers, 89% said they were satisfied with their heat pump. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme has helped drive uptake, and Greg Jackson, Founder and CEO of Octopus Energy, said: “Ten thousand Cosy heat pumps means ten thousand homes with a better, cheaper way to heat – and every single one was built by our brilliant team in Northern Ireland. Half a million people have asked us about heat pumps in the last 18 months, and the ones who've switched love them. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme has helped get us here. We need to keep backing it so heat pumps can scale further and soon become affordable without subsidy – and the way to get there is by growing the market, not pulling support away too soon.”
Cooling add-on and wider rollout
The announcement coincides with the launch of Cosy Cooler, an add-on that turns existing Cosy units into a cooling system without separate air conditioning. We covered the £500 gadget earlier today.
