UK and US sign fusion strike partnership
The UK and US have launched a fresh round of agreements to speed up fusion energy development. Two deals signed at the Global Fusion Summit in London focus on shared supercomputing power and aligned regulation. The aim is to cut the time needed to design future power plants and give investors clearer rules.
Jobs, investment and the STEP timeline
Government figures show the sector could support more than 10,000 UK jobs by 2030. The UK has already set up the first dedicated fusion market framework in March 2026 and published a draft national policy statement. Its STEP programme still targets a prototype plant at West Burton by 2040. Minister for Energy Michael Shanks said: "Fusion has the potential to provide virtually limitless clean energy while supporting more than 10,000 jobs across the UK by 2030, attracting investment and creating major opportunities for British businesses."
