Grid approval clears path for two Irish Sea projects
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has given the green light to the cables, substations and onshore infrastructure needed to connect the Morecambe and Morgan offshore wind farms to the National Grid. Morecambe will add 480 MW and Morgan 1.5 GW once built.
How the connection will work
Offshore export cables will run to landfall points, then onshore cables will feed new substations and circuit-breaker compounds. Separate development consent orders cover the wind-farm generation assets and the transmission works.
