How to get a BT Mobile PAC code

If you want to leave BT Mobile and keep your phone number, you need a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC). BT Mobile must send it to you free of charge.

The quickest way is to text PAC to 65075 from the BT Mobile number you want to keep. Under Ofcom rules, your network should reply within one minute with a nine-character code (three letters and six numbers). The same text usually includes any early termination charges that apply if you are still in a minimum contract term.

You can also request a BT Mobile PAC code by:

  • Calling 150 from your BT Mobile phone, or 0800 800 150 from any phone
  • Signing in to My BT, going to Manage your products → Manage mobile → Settings → Switch to another provider → I'd like a switching code

If you have multiple numbers on one account — for example on a Family SIM plan — you cannot get all PAC codes by text alone. Log in to My BT or call BT to request codes for each line.

Your PAC is valid for 30 days. Requesting one does not cancel your contract. BT Mobile only stops billing once your number has transferred to your new provider.

Use our PAC & STAC code generator if you want the exact text message and short code ready to copy.

How to cancel BT Mobile and switch to another network

Cancelling BT Mobile when you are moving to a new network works differently from closing an account without switching. If you want to keep your number, follow the PAC process rather than asking BT to disconnect you outright.

Step 1: Get your PAC code
Text PAC to 65075, or use My BT or phone support as above.

Step 2: Compare SIM only deals
BT Mobile uses the EE network, but you are not limited to EE when you leave. Browse SIM only deals across all major networks and MVNOs. If you want the lowest monthly cost, start with our cheapest SIM only deals or 30-day SIM only deals for more flexibility.

Step 3: Sign up with your new provider
Choose a plan and give them your PAC when asked. Order and activate your new SIM before the transfer — the port usually needs an active replacement line.

Step 4: Wait for the number to port
The switch typically completes within one working day. Keep using your BT Mobile SIM until it stops working.

Step 5: Check your final BT bill
Once the port finishes, BT Mobile cancels your plan automatically. Your closing bill may include any remaining contract charges, partial-month usage, or device payments still owed.

Do not contact BT to cancel your mobile contract before the port completes. Cancelling early can disconnect your number permanently and make it impossible to transfer.

How to cancel a BT Mobile contract without keeping your number

If you do not need your existing number, request a Service Termination Authorisation Code (STAC) instead of a PAC. Text STAC to 75075 from your BT Mobile phone. BT will reply with a code you can give to a new provider if you want them to handle the disconnection, or use it to confirm you are leaving without porting.

Alternatively, you can ask BT for a standard disconnection without switching. You must give at least 30 days' notice, even if your minimum term has already ended. BT will keep billing for that notice period, then terminate the line and send a final bill.

BT Mobile cancellation charges and contract end dates

Whether you pay to leave early depends on your plan type and how long is left on your contract.

  • In a minimum term: BT Mobile may charge early termination fees based on the months remaining. When you text PAC to 65075, the reply should state any charge that applies. You can also text INFO to 85075 for contract end date and exit cost information.
  • Out of contract: You can usually leave without an early exit fee, though standard notice rules may still apply if you disconnect without porting.
  • Handset or device plans: Any outstanding balance on a phone payment plan is typically due when you leave, separate from the SIM plan charge.
  • Add-ons and perks: Included extras — such as data boosts or subscription bundles — end when your line closes.

Check your latest bill and My BT account before you switch so there are no surprises on your final statement.

Cancelling BT Mobile on Family SIM and multi-line accounts

Family SIM and other multi-line BT Mobile accounts need extra care:

  • Each number that is moving needs its own PAC if you want to keep those numbers
  • PAC codes for additional lines are usually requested through My BT or by calling 0800 800 150, not by texting from each handset in every case
  • Lines you are not moving can stay active on the account if you only want to cancel one number

Decide which numbers are leaving before you contact your new providers, and request the correct code for each line.

What happens after you leave BT Mobile

Once your number ports or your notice period ends:

  • Your BT Mobile SIM stops working on the transfer date (or at the end of notice for a straight cancellation)
  • Billing stops from that date for the cancelled line
  • You lose access to BT Mobile app features and any plan-specific benefits
  • Your BT ID may still work for other BT services — for example BT Broadband if you have it — but the mobile line itself is closed

If you also want to leave BT Broadband, that is a separate cancellation process with its own notice rules.

BT Mobile vs EE: does it matter when you switch?

BT Mobile runs on the EE network, but BT Mobile and EE are separate providers for switching purposes. You still request your PAC from BT Mobile — not from EE — and you give that code to whichever network you join next.

Switching from BT Mobile to EE is treated like any other network change: get your PAC from BT Mobile, then hand it to EE when you sign up. The same applies if you move to O2, Vodafone, Three, Sky Mobile, or a low-cost MVNO such as giffgaff or Smarty.

Finding a cheaper deal after you cancel BT Mobile

Most people who search for how to cancel BT Mobile are ready to move to a lower monthly price or a plan that fits their data use more closely.

Common mistakes when cancelling BT Mobile

Cancelling before porting your number
This is the most costly error. Always give your PAC to the new network first and let the port close your BT Mobile line automatically.

Letting your PAC expire
Codes last 30 days. If yours runs out, text PAC to 65075 again — it is free to request a new one.

Switching before your new SIM is active
Your new provider needs an active line to receive the port. Wait until the replacement SIM is working before confirming the transfer date.

Assuming BT Broadband and BT Mobile cancel together
They are separate products. Leaving mobile does not cancel broadband, and vice versa. See our guide on how to cancel BT Broadband if you need to leave both.

Ignoring device payments
A SIM plan cancellation does not automatically clear any remaining handset balance. Check My BT for outstanding device charges.
