Fast climb after launch
The Debt Collector landed at number three on Netflix's Global Top 10 Non-English Films just seven days after release. It hit the top spot in Thailand within 24 hours and has stayed there since. The film also reached the Top 10 in 56 countries, showing strong interest in Thai stories beyond Asia.
Director's take on the story
Director Surapong Ploensang said: "What I hope audiences take away from this movie is simply enjoyment. I want everyone to watch this film and feel extremely excited and satisfied; all our effort is aimed at that. The simplest essence of an action film is for the audience to have fun with it and feel thrilled. We put our heart and soul into delivering that for our audiences."
He added that the film explores the universal weight of debt without spelling it out, and the response across many countries has been rewarding.
Lead performances and UK viewing
Nadech Kugimiya described spending hours in makeup to become the character Num, while Daou Pitaya Saechua played the villain Po with a mix of brutality and unexpected softness that went viral online. The story is set in Phetchaburi Province and includes local temple fairs and motorcycle stunts, giving viewers outside Thailand a different side of the country.
