E.ON Completes OVO Takeover – What Changes for Customers

The acquisition closed on 8 October, folding OVO into the E.ON group alongside E.ON Next.

Deal Now Finalised

E.ON has completed its purchase of OVO Energy. The move brings the supplier under the same ownership as E.ON Next, creating one of the larger retail energy groups in the UK market.

What Stays the Same for Now

OVO customers keep their existing tariffs and account details in the short term. No automatic switch to E.ON Next products has been announced, so current direct debits and meter arrangements continue unchanged.

How This Fits Recent E.ON Next Moves

E.ON Next has already begun rolling out new offers, including Next Drive Smart overnight EV charging at 6.5p/kWh for drivers with a home charger and smart meter. The acquisition gives the group more scale to compete on such time-of-use tariffs.

Next Steps for Households

Shoppers can still compare OVO, E.ON Next and other suppliers side by side on our energy comparison pages. Anyone considering a switch should check their current exit fees and renewal dates before moving, as the combined group may adjust pricing or product names over the coming months.
