We're seeing another tough winter ahead for many households, so it's good news that OVO Energy is launching a £56m Extra Support Package to help those struggling most.
Applications open on 1 October for measures including free energy-saving kits, smart sockets, electric throws, and even bigger upgrades like insulation or new boilers through the GBIS scheme. Customers can also get Direct Debit reductions, emergency credit, and longer repayment plans.
Who's getting extra help?
- Dedicated specialist teams for those in the most financial difficulty
- Partnerships with Warm Welcome Campaign, StepChange Debt Charity, National Energy Action and others
- Over £190m already given out by OVO since 2022
New polling from OVO shows 91% of people are worried about their bills this winter, with 71% more concerned than last year. Fuel poverty has now hit 9 million households in England.
OVO's call for lasting change
OVO is again urging the government to introduce a social tariff so the most vulnerable get discounted energy bills. A recent Green Alliance report found this would lift more people out of poverty than the current Warm Home Discount.
David Buttress, CEO of OVO, said:
“We’re providing support to those who need it most by working together with our charity partners and committing our largest ever customer support package.
“But this isn’t a long term solution. We need to make the energy system work better for everyone. That starts with targeted support in the form of a social tariff – no one can be, or no one needs to be left behind.”
