We've spotted a new trial from EDF that could put an extra £150 back in the pockets of lighter energy users.
The year-long Low Standing Charge Trial runs through their existing FreePhase tariffs and hands eligible customers a £6.25 monthly discount per fuel on the standing charge. That's on top of the average £152 already saved by FreePhase customers in the first five months of 2026.

- New or existing FreePhase customers who qualify
- Anyone happy to switch usage to cheaper time bands
The trial follows Ofgem's push for suppliers to offer lower-standing-charge options, and there's no exit fee if you want to leave.
Callum Morgan, Product Design Expert for Smart Tariffs, said: “It is important that we and Ofgem continue to look at ways we can help all of our customers reduce their bills, so we are pleased to offer this trial tariff, focused on helping lower users save.
“Combining the trial with our FreePhase product gives customers a real opportunity to make more sizable savings which we hope will make a real difference.”
FreePhase Dynamic shifts rates daily across green, amber and red bands, while the Static version locks rates for a year. Both reward shifting big jobs like EV charging or laundry to off-peak times.
