Expanded fund targets more UK manufacturers
Great British Energy has widened eligibility under its £300 million Supply Chain Fund for Offshore Wind and Networks. Seventeen extra components now qualify, giving more British factories a route to contracts in offshore wind and electricity networks. The move aims to cut reliance on imported kit and keep more of the clean energy spend inside the UK.
Aberdeen headquarters signals long-term commitment
The organisation has opened its permanent headquarters in Aberdeen, a city with decades of energy-sector experience. His Majesty the King visited the site, underlining the political weight behind the project. GBE says the base will create a lasting legacy of skilled jobs for future generations of energy workers.
Direct benefits for households and communities
GBE is also backing solar-thermal technology through its first major investment in British firm Naked Energy and has launched People's Power projects. These let local authorities and community groups develop their own solar or wind schemes, with proceeds staying in the area rather than flowing solely to large suppliers. Installations on schools, NHS sites and military buildings are already cutting public-sector energy costs, which can ease pressure on the energy price cap over time.
We track these national infrastructure steps because they shape the bills and tariffs available on our energy comparison pages. Households wanting to support home-grown renewables while keeping costs down can compare current deals and switch in minutes.
