Netflix expands its Spanish slate
Netflix has started shooting The Whisper of Fire, a four-part limited series filmed across Tenerife and Madrid. The project adapts Javier Castillo’s novel and follows the pattern of previous Spanish-language hits the streamer has brought to UK viewers. Production is handled by Atípica Producciones, the team behind earlier Castillo adaptations.
What the story involves
The plot centres on astrophysicist Laura, whose body is discovered in Teide National Park. Her twin brother Mario, who is fighting cancer, and Civil Guard sergeant Candela Oramas each investigate the night she died. The narrative moves between science and faith as new questions surface about the secrets Laura kept.
Cast and creative team
Inma Cuesta leads the cast alongside Alejandro García, Iván Pellicer, Zoe Bonafonte and Alicia Armenteros. Guillermo Bedward, Nico Romero and Jaime Zataraín also appear. Laura Alvea and José Ortuño direct from a screenplay by Jesús Mesas Silva and Javier Andrés Roig, with Alberto Félez and Cristina Sutherland executive producing.
How it fits the platform
This is the fourth Castillo novel turned into a Netflix series after The Snow Girl, The Soul Game and The Crystal Cuckoo. UK viewers can track all new additions and release windows in our tv section. Filming is now under way, though no UK premiere date has been confirmed.
