New Spanish comedy begins shooting
Netflix has started production on Rata, a comedy remake of the 2016 French film Radin!. Filming is underway at locations across Madrid with Fasten International Films and Borsalino Productions handling the project. The story follows a meticulous saver whose tightly controlled life unravels when an adult daughter he never knew about arrives and tries to pair him off.
Cast and creative team
Paco León leads as Federico, the central penny-pincher. Alicia Falcó plays his daughter Laura, while Miren Ibarguren appears as Valentina. Oriol Pérez Alcaraz directs from a script by Eric Navarro and Natalia Durán. Executive producer Claudia Calviño oversees the production, which also credits Gaël Nouaille and Adria Monés as producers.
Who might enjoy it
The film targets viewers who like light, character-driven comedies about family disruption and money habits. Its Spanish setting and cast give it a distinct flavour from Netflix's bigger English-language titles, yet the universal theme of loosening up should travel. No UK release date has been confirmed yet, so anyone keen can keep an eye on the TV section for updates.
Production background
Borsalino Productions has delivered more than twenty features since 2009, including previous Netflix titles such as Honeymoon with Mom. Fasten Films recently premiered three projects at Cannes in 2026. Together they bring established Spanish and international experience to this new title, which should slot into Netflix's growing slate of European comedies.
