We've been chatting about the latest on home batteries and how they could quietly change the way we use energy. No roof work, no scaffolding, and often installed in half a day — they're one of the easiest ways to get involved in the shift to smarter energy.
Savings that add up
Early trials show households are already cutting around £250 a year by pairing a battery with a time-of-use tariff. In some constrained network areas, participants are seeing guaranteed savings of up to £480. The idea is straightforward: the battery charges when power is cheap or renewable energy is plentiful, then releases it when prices spike.
Davide Turi from E.ON Next put it well: “We believe batteries are the easiest and fastest way to help more homes become an active part of the energy grid and also generate savings, both for the energy system and for households that are hosting batteries,” Davide said.
Keeping it simple
One customer summed up the real-world benefit: “I can bake more cakes for my kids… and I can see every month I pay less.”
Davide also stressed that customers shouldn’t have to become energy experts. The tech should just work in the background.
