Home installations dominate
Around 366,325 EV chargers went in last year, but a whopping 96% were home units — up nearly 30% on the year before. That lines up with rising EV sales and the simple appeal of plugging in overnight.
Public network hits the brakes
Public charger installs fell 46% in 2025, mainly thanks to DNO substation delays and red tape. Ultra-rapid points were the exception, growing 40% with 3,425 new units added.

What this means for you
If you've got off-street parking, a home charger can save money by using off-peak tariffs and pair nicely with solar or battery storage. Check your DNO rules and make sure any install meets the IET Wiring Regulations.
