Vodafone teams up with National Parks for the ultimate summer gadget

Swap screen time for green time with nature’s original smart device

20 July 2026 · Hannah Blackwood · Vodafone

We’ve spotted a fun campaign from Vodafone that’s got us smiling. They’ve partnered with the UK’s National Parks to promote ‘The Stick’ as the must-have handheld for families this summer.

Why the stick beats any app

It’s free, it never runs out of battery, and the applications are literally endless. Kids can turn it into a sword, a wand, a walking stick or even a microphone. The idea is simple: get families outside enjoying real adventures instead of endless scrolling.

New research from Vodafone shows 94% of parents want their kids to spend more time in nature this summer, and over half say nature trips create their best family memories.

What parents are already doing

  • 51% use their phones to encourage outdoor time
  • 63% check the weather before heading out
  • 48% rely on them for navigation
  • 77% take photos to capture the moments

Nicki Lyons, Chief Corporate Affairs & Sustainability Officer, VodafoneThree, said: “Helping people build healthy digital habits has long been a priority for us.

“We’re excited to see families using technology in purposeful ways to swap screen time for green time – sparking curiosity, building confidence and encouraging more time outdoors.

“That’s exactly what The Stick campaign with the National Parks is designed to support and we hope families enjoy our Stick-tionary this summer.”

Gavin Capstick, CEO, Lake District National Parks and Learning, and Engagement lead for the National Parks, said: “Some of the best outdoor adventures start with the simplest things. A stick can become almost anything a child wants it to be, and that’s exactly why it’s such a powerful tool for imagination and play.

“National Parks are places where families can spend time together, build confidence, connect with and learn more about nature and create lasting memories. We’re delighted to be working with Vodafone to encourage more families to get outside and discover what’s on their doorstep this summer.”
