VodafoneThree just finished a world-first network upgrade

Up to 28.6 million customers now get automatic access to the best coverage from either network, with faster 5G for millions more.

What’s changed

Vodafone and Three have finished the first big step in combining their networks after the merger. The upgrade lets phones automatically switch between the two networks to find the strongest signal, without you doing anything.

Who benefits right now

  • 28.6 million Vodafone and Three customers are already seeing better coverage and fewer not-spots.
  • Up to 50 million people (71% of the UK) can now tap into the combined network’s fastest 5G speeds.
  • They’ve wiped out 16,500 km² of 4G dead zones — that’s ten times the size of London.

The quote from VodafoneThree

Andrea Donà, Chief Network Officer, VodafoneThree, said: “This world-first network upgrade shows how VodafoneThree is using cutting-edge technology to transform the UK’s digital infrastructure. By unifying core and radio sharing at a national level, while also introducing intelligent orchestration and dynamic capacity management, we’re setting a new benchmark for network performance.

“This upgrade means customers are already experiencing improved reliability and coverage, as well as access to our fastest 5G speeds today. But this is just the beginning. As we continue rolling out upgrades through our £11 billion investment, customers can expect even better performance, with even faster speeds.”

What it means for you

If you’re on either network, you should notice steadier connections in busy areas and quicker downloads on 5G. The work is part of the bigger £11bn plan to build the UK’s strongest mobile network.

We’ll keep an eye on how the merged network performs in the months ahead — check our latest mobile network reviews for the latest speed tests and coverage updates.
