A chance reunion sparks fresh clashes
Seven years after a sudden split, office worker Haruki bumps into his ex at a women’s demonstration. She has become a feminist and no longer matches the devoted girlfriend he remembers. Determined to win her back, he instead finds himself arguing over everyday assumptions about what counts as normal. The story draws from Min Ji Hyoung’s Korean bestseller that sold out quickly in Japan too.
New faces join the core duo
Mei Nagano stars as the girlfriend after cutting her hair for the role, while Taisei Kido plays the self-described nice guy Haruki. Director Keiichi Kobayashi, known for mixing realistic and fantastical love stories, leads the project. Six supporting players appear in the newly released trailer, including Junki Tozuka as Haruki’s best friend and Manami Higa as the girlfriend’s watchful older sister.
December slot on the streamer
The film premieres worldwide on 3 December, only on Netflix. Viewers can expect a romantic comedy that moves between laughs and sharper exchanges on gender and social expectations. For more on the latest additions to the platform, see our tv section. This sits alongside other recent Netflix trailers, such as Netflix Teases Fresh Twists in The Devil's Plan: Dead Again.
Who might enjoy it
The adaptation should appeal to fans of character-driven romcoms that tackle modern relationship friction without shying away from debate. Those who liked the original novel’s bold title and premise will find the same central tension preserved on screen.
