The Weekly Wi-Fi Apology Habit
Sky's research shows Brits now apologise for patchy connections almost twice a week on work calls. More than two in five remote workers (42%) say the phrase has become routine, while 46% have turned off their camera to keep a call stable. The same issues spill into personal life, with 34% apologising during video chats with family or friends in the past month alone.
Sky's 1.6Gbps Rollout
Sky Broadband is adding Full Fibre 1.6Gbps to its range, available to 79% of UK homes on the Openreach network. The package runs at an average 1.6Gbps download and 100Mbps upload. It sits alongside the provider's existing 5Gbps option, which reaches 14% of homes. Ben Case, Managing Director of Connectivity at Sky, said: “Our research shows how unreliable broadband can disrupt everything from work meetings to calls with loved ones, which is why Sky Broadband is now bringing lightning-fast Full Fibre 1.6Gbps speeds to nearly 80% of homes in the UK - helping customers stay connected to what matters most.”
Price, Contract and Switching
New customers, including existing Sky TV or mobile users, can sign up for £38 a month subject to availability. The service uses Sky's Gigafast+ hub with Wi-Fi 7. Existing Sky Broadband customers will be offered an upgrade later. Those switching from another provider can claim up to £200 credit toward exit fees.
Who This Actually Suits
The speed is pitched at households running five or more devices at once, heavy streamers and gamers. It is more than twenty times faster than Sky's standard 67Mbps package, though real-world performance still depends on location and in-home setup.
