A Mother’s Search After Tragedy
Netflix has released the official trailer for On Behalf of My Son, a new Brazilian drama directed by Gabriel Martins. The film stars Rejane Faria as Vicentina, a 75-year-old retired teacher whose son dies in a bus accident that also claims other lives. After the crash makes headlines and raises questions about whether the driver acted deliberately, Vicentina sets out to meet the victims’ families and apologise on her son’s behalf.
The story follows her as she pieces together conflicting accounts of the tragedy and tries to come to terms with her grief. The cast also includes Flávio Bauraqui, Giovanna Heliodoro, Giovanni Venturini, Grace Passô, Karine Teles, Maíra Azevedo, Renato Novaes and Thalma de Freitas.
Festival Run and Cinema Dates
The film already premiered internationally at the Toronto International Film Festival and was selected for the San Sebastián International Film Festival. It will compete at the Rio Film Festival from 9 October before opening in select Brazilian cinemas on 5 November.
