Final Season Trailer Lands
Netflix has released the first trailer and key artwork for the third and final season of The Empress. The six-episode run arrives worldwide on 12 November and follows Elisabeth as she battles court constraints, her health and Franz's infidelity after the Sardinian War. Showrunner Katharina Eyssen returns with directors Florian Cossen and Julia Langhof, filming across Bavaria, the Czech Republic and Spain.
What the Story Holds
After the war, Emperor Franz returns traumatised while Elisabeth fights to save their marriage and push reforms. Her path crosses with Hungarian revolutionary Count Andrássy, creating immediate tension. Meanwhile Franz's brother Maximilian heads to Mexico for his own imperial adventure. The season ends with Elisabeth forced to choose between personal desire and duty. One line from the trailer captures the stakes: "Perhaps she will be remembered, and otherwise none of us." — Archduchess Sophie to Elisabeth.
Where to Watch
The series streams exclusively on Netflix from 12 November. No other UK platforms will carry it at launch. If you're already a subscriber the new episodes drop automatically; otherwise you'll need a standard plan to catch the finale. For the latest on streaming options and packages, see our TV section.
Who It's For
Fans of period drama with strong female leads will find the same lavish production values and political intrigue that earned the first season an International Emmy. Viewers who prefer lighter fare may find the corset-tight court politics and health struggles heavier than previous seasons. The story wraps the arc started in 2022, so new watchers might want to start at season one before November.
